4/5/94 The Metropolis, Montreal, Quebec Thanks _very_ much for the very good d>a, Joe! This set has one of my favorite
Tweezers, an excellent Ya Mar and If I Could... but a rather plebeian YEM. YEM opens somewhat shakily, strangely,
especially given how well the last three songs of the set were played. Trey's staccato'ed noodling in the opening just isn't quite as
tight as it is usually. The pre-Nirvana segment is quite harmonious and engaging.. lots of noise from the rather unruly crowd,
though (with some "Shut Up!" commentary from some fans). Nirvana at 2:31 (so much for the drawn-out pre-Nirvana segment,
I guess). Mike's solo-section around 3:17 is depressing (sniff), but "pretty." Page is really pounding the piano is this pre-charge
segment, fwiw.. at least his work is coming through the B&K 4011s well. First shot at THE NOTE at 4:37, and Trey jams
about it quite well. Second shot at the NOTE is predictably sustained, and sustained somewhat-well.. "Boy" at 5:59. Very
active, funky groovin' amidst the BMGS and WUDMTF lyrics from everyone. Signals from Mike at the tramps segment's
opening.. Page is fairly active on the keys. Nothing profound.. Jam segment begins quietly around 10:20 with Trey noodling
melodiously (just Fish accompanying on hi-hat at first). Trey starts repeating a very "Spooky"-esque groove around 10:55 or
so, without actually teasing "Spooky," though. He drops this, though.. The jam doesn't really go anywhere until 12 minutes,
when everyone comes back in, and Mike with a vengeance! Mike is repeating this ultra-groovy lick in here!! Trey's soloing is
typical YEM, and he even teases "Oye Como Va" within thirty seconds.. Page and Fish's accompaniment is very good. Trey's
soloing throughout this jam segment is quite good.. lots of sustain around 13:40 or so.. but really, nothing unusually profound, at
all. Just another great YEM jam segment. B&D segment at 14:13.. YOWZAAAAAAAAAAAH.. Mike gets LOW on the 'doc
in here!! Not much from Fish.. Damn, I was hoping Mike would develop that nice groove he opened the jam segment with..
Not only is this a very short B&D segment, but it really didn't contain anything that exciting. :( At 15:20 the closing WUDMTF
segment begins. Vocal jam ensues within twenty seconds as usual... it is quite upbeat, even danceable-to, at first.. but.. Lots of
screaming from the audience around 17:20 (I don't know why; they get really quiet fairly soon.. then start up again). Solid vocal
jam... around 18:50 I Wanna Be Like You segues in nicely (drums first). This YEM really wasn't that awesome... B-/C+
rating. two cents
