Woa! Just got back from the show here at Municipal Auditorium. Great show!
Second set ended with the greatest You Enjoy Myself I've ever heard.
The guys went right into the vocal jam and went ballistic. They did do a
quick Star Spangled Banner after that and got a curious reaction from the
crowd. Not being from KC I didn't understand as much as Phish was
confused. Something about the Kansas City Chiefs??? Encored with totally
awesome Squirming Coil complete with Page's 10 minute piano solo to the
end of the show. Next stop: West coast...

Subject: 11/19 Review
From: Jeff <0210777@ACAD.NWMISSOURI.EDU>

Ok, Here is my review of the 11/19/96 Phish concert at Municipal
Auditorium in
Kansas City, MO.

The Scene: The scene was nice, Downtown KC, small arena, only about
ten
thousand people there, and there wasn't the hordes of ticketless that I
had
expected. the scene before led me to believe that the show was going to
be
great.

Setlist:

I: Ya Mar, AC/DC Bag, Foam, Theme From the Bottom, Mound, Stash, Fee,
Taste,
Loving Cup.

II: David Bowie, A Day in the Life, Bathtub Gin, Vibration of Life> You
Enjoy
Myself> Groove is in your Heart> You Enjoy Myself, Star Spangled Banner*,
Fire

E: The Squirming Coil

* A Capella

Set I

Ya Mar: This was the first time I had ever heard it, but I liked it.
AC/DC Bag: Way to go, they jammed nice
Foam: WOW, I love this song, and wasn't expecting it
Theme: Nice light show to go a long with it
Mound: Awesome as usual
Stash: Crowd really liked it
Fee: Definitaly unexpected, and a nice touch in the middle of many jammed
        songs
Taste: groovy
Loving cup: another one I had never heard before, but needless to say, it
was
very enjoyable.

Set II

David Bowie: 15 minutes or so of solid jams
A Day in the Life: ROCK HARD!!
Bathtub Gin: The first time I had heard this live, and I like they way
the
jammed it out for 20 minutes
YEM>Groove>YEM: ORGASMIC, after the vibe, I almost wet my pants when they
started up with YEM, and they were solid, Trampolines and all,
35 minutes long, and it made my show!!
Star Spangled Banner: What a shock Trey got when the crowd cheered out
        "chiefs" at the end
Fire: I think that I like the Hendrix version better, but this was good

E: Coil: Did anyone else hear the "Chalkdust" tease in the middle? I
swear
I heard the first few chords of it. Pages solo at the end was
so awesome, it brought a tear to my eye.

Overall, I had an awesome time, this was my best show yet, I was moving
the
whole time...I can't wait until the holiday tour!!!

** A Capella

Sometime near the end of the second set, Trey announces that this is their
last show for this half of the country, and that they are heading 1700
miles
west later.

A few thoughts:

Foam - started a little sloppy, but soon turned into a beautiful
rendition.

Stash - wow, this was a long one, but it really got going towards the end.

Loving Cup - wasn't a huge fan of this from the tapes I'd heard, but it's
a
lot better live than I expected.

Bowie - not nearly as wacked as the Omaha 11/16 was

You Enjoy Myself - my fourth show in the last week and I was afraid I
wouldn't
get to see this one this year. They started to sing "Groove is in the
heart"
somewhere in the middle of the jam, and of course they did the freaked out
vocal bit at the end with the amazing lights display. I strongly believe
that
you haven't REALLY seen a Phish show until you see a YEM.

Squirming Coil - Somehow I knew this would be their encore, and it's not
really a fave by any means, but Page's solo work at the end made it worth
sticking around.

That's it for me until next spring/summer/fall. 8-( This was my first
mini-tour (kind of hard to do the whole sh-bang when you've got a
full-time
job), but I always wanted to go on the road for awhile with these guys,
and at
least I got to catch St. Louis!

Peace,
Todd
