2/3/86 Hunt's, Burlington, VT

Mike's begins with a lot of rhythm guitar. Lots of strumming on the
typical opening Mike's chords. Interesting hearing two guitars...
(Jeff and Trey). Opening is otherwise basically the same as you've
always heard it. "Tramps segment" begins at 2:52 or so. Trey starts
soloing right away, overtop a nice groove. I love these old JAMMY,
melodious Mike's Songs. I find them far more attractive than the
ominous, dark, evil Mike's Song tramps segments that were so common
from around 1988-1995 or so. Although Trey's lead soloing doesn't
have too much direction (noodles around), I nevertheless find this
very Dead-like jamming enjoyable to listen to. Mike's closing chords
come in around 6:15, and at 6:48, there's that early ending to
Mike's.. "Life is not what it.." lyric. I still haven't been able to
determine what these lyrics are, exactly.

And then an early, complete version of Dave's Energy Guide begins (DEG
was an actual "song" back then, you know.. it wasn't just the loopy
stuff you often hear teased in recent jams). Actually, this could
just be a very enchanting segue into the real DEG. A nice melodious
intro.. naaaaaw. This sounds too composed, and the segue into the
Crimson-Disciplinesque DEG is too smooth.. This is the Original DEG.
=^] Anyway, easy C+ for this wholesome but short, early Mike's Song.
